The three entered the barn. Two humans, one horse. Jarred put the colt into crossties with not much slack. He didn't want to make Kristy's job any harder than it already was. "Now, just untack him. I'll be standing right here to take the tack back. Keep relaxed, or he'll take advantage of you," he said calmly. He didn't want to scare the girl, but he needed to make sure she was aware. Once he had done that, and the horse had kicked him!

She nodded. After stroking him a little bit...she reached under and undid the girth. With that done, she pulled off the saddle and set it on a nearby saddle rack. She smiled at the horse and undid the bridle. Slipping it out of his mouth and side glancing at Jarred.

He nodded approval as he saw her eyes dart at him. She was being nice and gentle, and he could see Ben relaxing. "You're doing well," he said. He picked up a brush and handed it to her. Hopefully she could get him groomed correctly, although it wasn't the easiest or hardest thing to do. Ben could be a little touchy with grooming, but he seemed so relaxed that Jarred wasn't worried.

Kristy smiled again and took the brush. Then, starting at the start of the neck, she brushed him down. Head to toe. She liked this horse. She didn't realize that he could be so touchy. Mostly because he wasn't being touchy. She didn't know how he was with other people. But right now, he was definetly being a good boy.

Jarred stood in amazement. She really had something with Ben! "Wow, Ben's never stood this still! Here's a carrot you can give him," he said. Ben really deserved the praise for this. He was being awesome! And so was Kristy. She had a good chance at a job here. Ella just had to meet her.

Thanks she said quietly. It felt good to be praised. And apparently Ben deserved it too. She took the carrot and fed it to him. She stroked his forehead and gazed into his eyes. She felt happy once more. More than she ever had been...at least since her father died.

He checked his watch. Wow it had gotten late! After Ben finished his snack, he snorted. He was getting tired. "You can groom Ben some more if you want, or put him away. It's getting pretty late," he said. It was nearing eight. Normally Ella kicked people off the property at about eight forty five. Well, not literally.

She nodded and unhooked his cross ties. Then took him to the stall with his name...marking that it was him. Latching it she turned back to Jarred. "Thank you. It was fun" She looked outside to see the sun sinking over the mountains. Then it hit her. Where was she going to go tonight? This was one of the problems with running away. No place to stay. And no money. She would have to figure out something.

He smiled and made sure the stall door was securely latched. He gave the colt some more water and grain, then started out. "Come back some time soon so we can figure out a job for you," he said with a grin. Then he turned on his heel and walked to his cottage by the stud paddocks. On his way out, he checked that Kristy had left and shut off the barn lights.

Bye she said and left quietly. Shutting off the barn lights. She trekked down the drive and walked on the road. Of course she would be returning. Tomorrow most likely. Right now...it was the only place she had to go. But she continued to walk...hoping to maybe find a hotel. But with no money that wouldnt work. Maybe an abandoned building? God. She should have taken some money with her. Not that she had any left. Her mom spent it all on alcohol and gambling. She pulled her hands into fists at the thought of her mother.
